Technical Computing Magazine - Issue 41

X-citing substitute

Reference Manager 12 does not currently support Word 2010 64-bit and won't work on a Mac, which poses a problem for users looking to buy a new PC, update their operating system or move to the Macintosh platform. But there is a way for Reference Manager users to stay ahead of the research race and it's not as complicated as it sounds!

The simplest solution is to move your references to sister citation managing software EndNote, where you'll be able to instantly import and open your Reference Manager v11/12 databases, and open/edit Reference Manager v11/12 Word documents - no long-winded conversion process required*!
As well as support for your preferred operating system, EndNote offers a lot of your favourite citing and writing tools plus some new features you'll find very useful. For example, you can find full text files and search for reference updates online automatically, store and cite all kinds of files, capture, edit and annotate PDF attachments, plus create table and figure lists.

While EndNote doesn’t currently offer simultaneous read/write access to references on the desktop, you can easily share records (read-only or read-write) with colleagues and link to full-text files online via your complimentary EndNote Web account which can be synced with your main local library at the click of a button. And once the EndNote iPad app is released this autumn, you'll be able to access your references, anytime, anywhere and any way you want!

Email biblio@adeptscience.com to learn how easy it is to open Reference Manager databases and Word docs in EndNote and make the switch today.

*Please note that the conversion capability is only available in EndNote X5.0.1 for Windows and above. A customer moving to the EndNote Mac platform will need to download the EndNote X6 Windows demo to convert their Reference Manager database before moving it onto a Mac. If you're running Reference Manager 10 or older, contact us for help with switching to EndNote.

Download the EndNote brochure to find out more, or visit the EndNote home page.
