Model Maths

Samir Khan
Product Specialist

Renowned everywhere for its extraordinary computational power and the unparalleled accuracy of its symbolic calculations, today's Maple is also remarkably easy to learn and use. Its documentcentred interface makes it remarkably simple to apply Maple's extensive functionality to solve, analyse and model technical applications, and to optimise, validate and deploy your solutions.

We've known Maplesoft's developers for many years now, so when a new version landed on our desks, our expectations were high. After a few hours of pushing Maple 11 to its limits, we certainly weren't disappointed!

What really makes today's Maple stand out is its "smart document environment" that automatically captures, for future recall and reuse, all of your technical knowledge. Maple 11 takes this further, with context sensitive menus that automatically create a record of how you solve problems; new options for showing numeric values in your document, including engineering and scientific notation; and interactive task assistants for fast access to special functions and scientific constants.

The new version performs even faster than before, with algorithms that take full advantage of new hardware developments such as multi-core processors. There are interactive tools you can use to experiment and generate the best solutions, and there's automatic derivation of models and expressions.

In terms of sheer mathematical functionality Maple continues to reign supreme. The total number of maths functions in Maple 11 now exceeds 4000, including what experts agree are the world's most advanced differential equation solvers.

Calculus, algebra, statistics, linear algebra, geometry, transforms - they're all implemented in Maple 11, along with new packages for graph theory, theoretical physics and differential geometry, plus the world's leading polynomial real root finder.

Other new features in this release include a floating "favourites" palette to add to the symbols and special characters palettes; significant improvements to 2D plotting and plot annotation; a new, free-form sketching canvas; handwriting recognition; the ability to reference equations in other Maple documents; and the option to convert Maple documents to editable slide shows.

More connectivity to other applications is one of the "hot buttons" of Maple 11. Commercial and Government licences currently ship with the Maple Toolbox for MATLAB (see panel) and MapleNET, which lets you publish interactive Maple documents to the Web. There's also connectivity to simulation programs, including VisSim and Simulink; and of course to Microsoft Excel, with easier import and export of data in this new version.

With extensive code generation capabilities, full awareness and management of units and dimensions, and coverage of virtually every area of applied mathematics, Maple is must-have software wherever computational accuracy and reliability are paramount. From deriving mathematical models, to solving and analysis, parameter optimisation, solution validation and deployment of your results - Maple eases the flow of your analytical work, saving you time, minimising rework and reducing costs.

NEW MODULE INCLUDED WITH MAPLE 11!
The Maple Toolbox for MATLAB

Now you can combine the symbolic, analytical and documenting power of Maple with the industry-standard numeric calculation software - and ensure computational accuracy while performing calculations faster than ever before!

Maple 11 Commercial and Government licences currently ship with the Maple Toolbox for MATLAB that lets you access directly all the commands, variables and functions of Maple from within the MATLAB environment, or run MATLAB's lightning-fast numbercrunching tools within Maple. (Requires MATLAB version 6.5 R13 or higher.)
