The 14-bit USB Solution

A 12-bit analogue data input device just doesn't have enough resolution for your application; but you don't need the high spec – or the extra cost – of a 16-bit device. If this rings a bell, we have some good news for you!
Measurement Computing's range of low-cost USB data acquisition modules has been a big hit. Rugged, reliable and fully plug-and-play, they are incredibly easy to set up and use – they don't even require a separate power source. Now a 14-bit device has been added to the range, which rounds out the product offering with a solution for just about every application.
The USB-1408FS offer 8 single-ended inputs with 13-bit resolution or 4 differential inputs with 14-bit resolution, and sample rates up to 48 kilosamples/sec with 8 software selectable input ranges. As well as the analogue inputs, the unit also provides two channels of 12-bit analogue output, one 32-bit counter and 16 bits of digital I/O. Accuracy is up to ten times that of the USB-1208FS - though the price differential is a lot less than that! At the time of writing, the USB-1408FS retails at just £185 ex-VAT in the UK.
At 3.25 inches (8.26cm) wide, by 3.125 inches (7.94cm) long, by 1.00 inch (2.54cm) high, the USB-1408FS is just large enough to make connecting field wiring easy, yet small enough to fit on even the most crowded bench. Magnetic and Velcro mounting options along with a 0.225-inch (0.57cm) attachment hole make mounting easy, even in unconventional installations. The attachment hole can also be used with a cable lock or padlock in applications where security is required.
The USB-1408FS is factory calibrated, and comes bundled with a USB cable and all-in-one installation, setup, calibration and test software; a stripchart recorder, oscilloscope and data logging application; and powerful language interfaces that allow you to write programs in all of the popular programming languages using easy-to-understand, high-level command syntax, supported by many applications such as DASYLab and LabVIEW.
If a combination of high specification data acquisition, top performance and budget-conscious pricing appeals to you (and why wouldn't it?), the Measurement Computing USB range offers a comprehensive and attractive choice.
