Many engineers have commented on the lack of plug-in PC data acquisition boards supporting encoders, but ComputerBoards has quietly been building itself a fine reputation in this market for some time now. There are plenty of machine control applications where, for example, the position of a shaft has to be sensed by a data acquisition system. If you think this means the expensive solution of analogue boards with encoder add-ons, you're not alone but think again. When it comes to single-ended and differential quadrature encoders, ComputerBoards is doing its usual job of providing cost-effective hardware which meets user requirements perfectly. ComputerBoards' 2 or 4 channel Quad Encoder Cards are the straightforward, dedicated approach to bringing encoder signals into PC-based applications. The boards are now directly supported by the 'Universal Library' software so they can run with all major languages and operating systems (including HP-VEE). They have 24-bit hardware counters, so they can cope with a huge count, and can handle a 1.25MHz input rate if required. They can support an index pin too, allowing count datums to be used. In many applications, a simple counter which can't sense direction can lead to errors, but with ComputerBoards' Quad Encoder Cards, precision measurement of displacement is assured. |
