Electronic Books have been one of the great success stories in the development of technical computing over the years. There are now dozens of complete reference books available as Electronic Books, but they're much more than just CD-Rom versions of printed volumes for your PC. They're an example of the interactive potential of computers at its best. Working with the Mathcad software as their 'engine', Electronic Books feature text which is 'live'. As you'd expect, this includes features such as hyperlinks, browsing, and full word search. But as all of Mathcad's calculation and graphing features are built in, you can change parameters and definitions and see the results as you do so. This is everything that the term 'interactivity' ever promised! As a reference tool, Electronic Books are invaluable. As a learning tool, they can take education into another dimension. A good example of an educational Electronic Book is the new Problem Solving in Engineering (see panel). Containing over 140 practice problems in engineering, this Electronic Book demonstrates how to solve a wide variety of problems using Mathcad. Whether you're working in engineering or studying it, you'll find the in-depth explanations and step-by-step worked out solutions for each problem a tremendous aid to assist your day-to-day or project work. And it's just one of a large number of references which are now available in this format. |
