UEIPAC now available

United Electronic Industries’ (Walpole, MA) UEIPAC (Programmable Automation Controllers ) is now available for the Cube, GigE Cube and RACKtangle chassis from Adept Scientific (Letchworth, Herts).

The flexible UEIPAC allows you to match I/O and application requirements with up to 150 analogue or 288 digital I/O per Cube, 300 analogue or 576 per RACKtangle.

General Description

The UEIPAC™ (programmable automation controllers) offers an unprecedented combination of flexibility, high performance, low cost and small size.  The UEIPAC unit is an ideal solution in a wide variety of measurement and control applications including: Temperature control, Remote vehicle control (UAV and ULV), Hardware in-the-loop (HIL) and more.  The UEIPAC is also an ideal solution for a host of embedded data acquisition (DAQ) applications as it allows systems to be developed without the cost or the additional space required by an external host computer.

The UEIPAC 300 is 4” x 4” x 4” and offers 3 I/O slots.  The UEIPAC 600 is slightly larger at 4” x 4” x 5.8” but provides 6 I/O slots and allows up to 150 analogue inputs or 288 DIO channels.  GigE versions of UEIPAC cubes are designated UEIPAC 300-1G and UEIPAC 600-1G for the 3 and 6 I/O slot versions respectively.  The UEIPAC 1200R is a 12-slot, 3U 19″ rack mountable PAC while the UEIPAC 600R is a 6-slot ‘half-rack’.

UEI announces 2-Channel, MIL STD-1553, bus interface boards for UEI’s Cube and RACKtangle chassis family

Two exciting new additions to Adept Scientific’s product range are the DNA/DNR-1553-553 two-channel, dual redundant, 1553 bus interface boards from United Electronic Industries’ (UEI).

Each board provides two independent, dual redundant bus interfaces for 1553 communication. The DNA version is compatible with UEI PowerDNA and UEIPAC ‘Cubes’ while the DNR version is designed for use in UEI’s twelve and six slot RACKtangle chassis.

Each port may be independently configured as a Bus Controller (BC), Remote Terminal (RT) or Bus Monitor (BM). Designed to function in harsh environments, the DNA/DNR-1553-553 is fully tested for operation from -40 to +85°C, 0 to 70,000 ft and can withstand 5g vibration and up to 50g shock. “The addition of 1553 capability allows our military simulator manufacturing customers to move the 1553 interface out of their host PC and into the I/O chassis where it is easier to install and maintain.” According to Shaun Miller, UEI’s President, “1553 capability will also allow our customers to expand the use of our Cube products in flight test and flight data recording applications.”

About the ‘Cube’

UEI’s powerful ‘Cube’ architecture is a compact (4 x 4 x 4″ or 4 x 4 x 5.8″) Ethernet based I/O platform. It may be deployed in four different configurations. These are: 1) Ethernet I/O systems slaved to a host PC, 2) Stand-alone Data Logger/Recorder, 3) Linux-based Programmable Automation Controller (PAC) or 4) Modbus TCP based I/O slave. Each Cube consists of a core module (that holds the processor and network interface) along with three or six open I/O slots. Users select the deployment option that meets their requirements. Users then match the Cube’s I/O configuration to their application by selecting the appropriate boards. With over 25 I/O boards available, there’s sure to be a configuration to meet almost any application requirement. The six slot Cube provides up to 150 analogue inputs, 192 analogue outputs, 288 digital I/O, 48 counter or quadrature channels, 72 ARINC-429 channels, 24 Serial or CAN-bus ports or 12 1553 channels. UEI’s popular rack-mounted chassis provide convenient, front-loading, easily-serviced, multi-slot, 3U enclosures for the complete range of UEI I/O modules. Both products provide two Gigabit (1000/100/10 Base-T) Ethernet ports with independent IP addresses that can be used either for communication or diagnostic purposes. Passive backplanes with no active electronic components ensure an almost unlimited MTBF for both models and since all active components are mounted on easily replaceable I/O modules, an extremely short MTTR (mean time to recovery) can be achieved. A 12-slot RACKtangle can handle up to: 300 analogue inputs, 384 analogue outputs, 576 digital I/O, 96 counter or quadrature channels, 154 ARINC-429 channels, 48, serial or CAN-bus ports or 24 MIL-STD-1553 communication bus ports.
