Introducing UEI’s 12-channel electromechanical relay output interfaces

New to the Adept Scientific (Letchworth, Herts) DAQ product range are United Electronic Industries’ (UEI) (Walpole, MA) DNA/DNR-DIO-452/462. The 12-channel, electromechanical relay boards are designed for use with UEI’s ‘Cube’ and RACKtangle I/O series respectively.

The DIO-452/462 boards are designed for use in a wide variety of switching and digital control applications. Each channel is configured as a standard Form C (SPDT) relay and switches voltages up to 100 VDC or 150 VAC. Each channel is rated for continuous operation at 2 Amps at 30 VDC and 0.75 Amp at 125 VAC with an output voltage of less than 200 mV (<200 mOhm).

All relays default to ‘off’ on power-up/reset; switching rates up to 125 Hz are supported. Each relay is protected by an on-board 2 Amp slow-blow fuse.

All connections are made through a convenient 37-pin D connector ensuring no problems obtaining mating cables or connectors. Users may also connect the DNx-DIO-452/462 boards to UEI’s popular DNA-STP-37 screw terminal panel via the DNA-CBL-37S cables. The cables are fully shielded and are available in 1, 3, 10 and 20 foot lengths.

The DNx-DIO-452/462 series includes software drivers supporting all popular operating systems including: Windows, Linux, QNX, VXWorks, RTX and other popular Real-Time Operating Systems. Guardian series 32-channel D/A boards

United Electronic Industries’ (UEI) (Walpole, MA) latest data acquisition boards have been introduced to the Adept Scientific (Letchworth, Herts) product range. The DNA-AO-333 and DNR-AO-333 are high density, high-precision, 32-channel analogue voltage output board compatible with UEI’s popular ‘Cube’ and RACKtangle I/O chassis.

The boards offer full 16-bit resolution and guarantee monotonicity over the entire operating temperature range. Utilising an innovative per-channel digital offset and gain calibration, initial gain and offset errors are limited to ±450 μV and ±305 μV respectively. Each DNA/DNR-AO-333 channel provides an output range of ±10 V and is capable of driving ±10 mA. For applications requiring higher output current, please refer to the DNA/DNR-AO-308-350 layer.

The Guardian series built-in diagnostics provides on-board A/D converters allowing each analogue output voltage to be monitored and confirmed. This powerful and yet simple tool sets the DNx-AO-333 apart from most D/A boards.

All 32 channels may be configured to update simultaneously or they may be updated one at a time as data is written. A 1024 sample FIFO allows each D/A to be updated at 10 kHz without data loss. Double buffering the outputs combined with the use of low glitch D/As make the DNx-AO-333 an ideal solution for generating low frequency waveforms or providing highly accurate switched stimulus. The board also offers a digital input bit which may be used as a trigger or as a general purpose input. A digital output bit is also provided.

Software included with the DNx-AO-333 provides a comprehensive yet easy to use API that supports all popular Windows programming languages as well as supporting programmers using Linux and most real-time operating systems including QNX, RTX, RT Linux, VXworks and more.

New 4-Channel LVDT / RVDT Interface boards

United Electronic Industries (UEI) (Walpole, MA) has introduced its new DNA-AI-254 board to its data acquisition product range.  A four channel LVDT/RVDT input and output simulation board for UEI’s powerful data acquisition and control Cubes the boards are ideally suited for a wide variety of rotational and linear motion measurements in many industries and are available from Adept Scientific (Letchworth, Herts).

The boards also offer a unique LVDT/RVDT simulated output capability designed to provide stimulus in avionics test and simulator applications. Each of the four channels on the board may be configured as either an input channel with excitation or as an output/simulator.

The 4 input channels are compatible with 4-, 5- and 6-wire LVDT/RVDT configurations. The board’s high precision circuitry combined with each channel’s independent 16-bit A/D converters allows an overall measurement accuracy of better than 0.1 per cent. The inputs may be read at rates up to 500 readings per second, depending upon the reference frequency.

Each channel provides an independent excitation output user programmable from 2 to 7 Vrms at frequencies from 50 to 5,000 Hz. The excitation output is capable of driving currents up to 50 mA, suitable for driving primary impedances as low as 90 ohms at excitations up to 6 Vrms.

The DNA-AI-254 also provides up to 4 channels of simulated LVDT/RVDT output that are ideal for driving simulator inputs or for use in testing LVDT/RVDT measurement products. The outputs each accept an independent excitation signal and offer 2-, 3- or 4-wire outputs with 16-bit resolution and an overall accuracy of better than 0.1 per cent. Each channel is capable of driving up to 50 mA at 7 Vrms without external buffering.

The DNA-AI-254 offers 350 Vrms of isolation between channels as well as between the I/O connections and the Cube. Like all UEI ‘Cube’ and RACKtangle compatible I/O boards, the DNA/DNR-AI-254 offers operation in harsh environments and Cube systems have been tested to 5g vibration, 50g shock, -40 to +85 °C temperatures and altitudes up to 70,000 feet.

Software for the DNA-AI-254 is provided as part of the UEI Framework. The framework provides a comprehensive yet easy to use API that supports all popular Windows programming languages as well as supporting programmers using Linux and most real-time operating systems including QNX, RTX, RT Linux and more.

8-channel strain gauge simulator boards

The DNx-AO-358 simulated strain gauge output boards from United Electronic Industries (Walpole, MA) have joined Adept Scientific’s (Letchworth, Herts) data acquisition product range.

The boards are available in two models — the DNA version, for use with UEI’s popular PowerDNA Cubes, and the DNR version, for rack-mounting in a PowerDNR RACKtangle or HalfRACK chassis.  Both versions provide eight channels of simulated strain gauge output based on signals from real variable resistor bridges that accurately duplicate the behaviour of the strain gauges simulated.

Each version may be ordered in a full or half/quarter bridge configuration with 120, 350 or 1000 ohm bridge completion resistances.  These new boards support both DC and AC excitation (DC to25 kHz range) with a system bandwidth of 250 kHz, minimum.  The output update rate is 0 to 5 kHz.  As an added feature each board also includes an on-board A/D converter that monitors excitation voltage to an accuracy of ±10 mV.

The boards are ideal for simulator applications in which an on-board device expects a strain gauge signal as an input.  They are also useful for testing and diagnosing errors in a wide range of strain gauge systems.

The DNx-AO-358 boards include software drivers compatible with all popular operating systems such as Windows, Linux, QNX, VXWorks, RTX and other popular real-time operating systems.  Windows users may also take advantage of the powerful UEIDAQ Framework, which provides a simple-to-use software interface to all popular Windows programming languages as well as DAQ and control applications such as LabVIEW, DASYLab and MATLAB.

Go wireless with DNA-CAR-550-300/600*

The latest data acquistion product from United Electronic Industries (Walpole, MA) has joined Adept Scientific’s (Letchworth, Herts) product range enabling you to ‘go wireless’.

The DNA-CAR-550-300/600 provides the capability to interface an industry standard PCI Express Mini Card to UEI’s GigE based UEIPAC series Cubes. The DNA-CAR-550-300/600 is compatible with the UEIPAC 300-1G and UEIPAC 600-1G models.

The DNA-CAR-550-300/600 provides a standard PCI Express Mini Card slot that is compatible with a wide variety of off-the-shelf Cell, WIFI and other communications cards. In addition, many of the Cell cards also provide a direct GPS interface. Note that the DNA-CAR-550-300/600 implements the USB interface of the PCI Express Mini Card architecture, but not the PCIe interface. Only Mini Cards based on the USB interface are supported by the DNA-CAR-550-300/600.

The Mini Card USB connection is connected directly to the UEIPAC’s USB port. Software support of the Mini Card will be supplied by the Mini Card’s manufacturer. Since the UEIPAC uses a standard Linux operating system, high quality drivers will be available from most Mini Card suppliers.

The DNA-CAR-550-300/600 also provides a slot for standard SIM/UIM cards provided by the various cell/CDMA/GSM network suppliers. This card may be inserted through the front panel of the DNA-CAR-550-300/600 allowing service to be added or modified without opening the cube or RACK.

External RF connections are provided by two standard SMA series connectors. These can be used to connect to various antennas such as those required by Cell, Wifi or GPS equipment. The DNA-CAR-550-300/600 may also be ordered with RPSMA connectors if desired.

Four LED annunciator lights are provided. The first is a simple power indicator which is lit any time power is provided to the board. The remaining three are connected to the three LED indicator control pins that are provided on the standard PCI Express Mini Card interface.

The DNA-CAR-550-300/600 provides a new level of system interconnectability to the UEIPAC, allowing simple and direct connection to a wide assortment of Cell/CDMA/GSM networks, WIFI networks. The board also allows direct connection to the satellite based GPS system.

Introducing the DNA/DNR-AI-255 2 channel synchro/resolver interface

The DNA/DNR-AI-255, United Electronic Industries’ (Walpole, MA) latest entry to the data acquisition market is now available from Adept Scientific (Letchworth, Herts).

The DNA-AI-255 is a two channel Synchro/Resolver input and output board compatible with UEI’s powerful Cube I/O chassis.  The board is suitable for a wide variety of test, measurement and control applications as well as for simulated outputs for test and simulator applications.  The board may be configured as two inputs, two outputs or one input and one output.

The board provides 2 input channels that will monitor either 3-wire synchros or 4-wire resolvers.  The board’s high precision circuitry combined with each channel’s independent 16-bit A/D converter allows measurement accuracies up to ± 2.6 arc-minutes.  The inputs may be read at rates up to 800 rps, depending upon the reference frequency.

Each channel provides its own programmable reference with outputs independently programmable from 2 to 28 Vrms at frequencies from 50 to 4,000 Hz and up to 1.2 VA.

The DNA/DNR-AI-255 also provides two channels of synchro or resolver output that are ideal for driving such items as attitude indicators or as a test source for a wide variety of synchro or resolver input devices.  The outputs each accept an independent reference signal and offer 16-bit output resolution. Each channel will drive up to 28 Vrms at 1.2 VA without external buffering.

The board offers 350 Vrms of isolation between channels as well as between the I/O connections and the Cube chassis.  Like all PowerDNA/UEILogger I/O boards, the DNA-AI-255 offers operation in harsh environments and has been tested to 5 g vibration, 50 g shock, -40 to +85 °C temperatures and altitudes up to 70,000 feet in Cube based systems.

UEI announces 2-Channel, MIL STD-1553, bus interface boards for UEI’s Cube and RACKtangle chassis family

Two exciting new additions to Adept Scientific’s product range are the DNA/DNR-1553-553 two-channel, dual redundant, 1553 bus interface boards from United Electronic Industries’ (UEI).

Each board provides two independent, dual redundant bus interfaces for 1553 communication. The DNA version is compatible with UEI PowerDNA and UEIPAC ‘Cubes’ while the DNR version is designed for use in UEI’s twelve and six slot RACKtangle chassis.

Each port may be independently configured as a Bus Controller (BC), Remote Terminal (RT) or Bus Monitor (BM). Designed to function in harsh environments, the DNA/DNR-1553-553 is fully tested for operation from -40 to +85°C, 0 to 70,000 ft and can withstand 5g vibration and up to 50g shock. Introducing the new PowerDNA PPCx-1G GigE Cube

FlightSafety International installs first SimI/O equipped flight simulator based on UEI’s powerful RACKtangle Ethernet I/O chassis

Adept Scientific (Letchworth, Herts) and United Electronic Industries (UEI) are pleased to announce that FlightSafety International has received Federal Aviation Authority (FAA), Level D Qualification on its first SimI/O equipped simulator.

The Hawker 900XP simulator’s I/O system is based on UEI’s RACKtangle I/O chassis. The UEI RACKtangle provides the interface between the controlling computers and the simulator’s various systems including Avionics Interface Computer (AIC), Control Loading and Motion (CLM) and Flight Deck I/O (FDK). The RACKtangle technology will also provide the I/O technology for all of FlightSafety’s future simulators.

UEI’s RACKtangle is used for a variety of reasons. Chief among these are:

a) The high channel density of the UEI system allows the I/O to be installed directly on the simulator, eliminating the need to run literally thousands of wires from the simulator to externally mounted I/O racks.

b) The high speed of the I/O combined with the Gigabit Ethernet interface real-time operating system support allows FlightSafety to operate their new SimI/O at 2000 Hz, providing ultra smooth and realistic flight characteristics,

c) FlightSafety expects an increase in simulator reliability and system throughput. It also benefits from a reduction in equipment and floor space required compared to previous installations due to the elimination of equipment racks and remote VME racks.

d) The built-in diagnostics of the UEI products, combined with the extensive diagnostic and self-test capabilities implemented by FlightSafety, reduced installation time, increases MTBF which will increase “in-system availability”.
