Mathcad Prime 3 PR montageNew release offers significantly improved calculation capabilities

Adept Scientific (Letchworth, Herts.) announces the release of Mathcad® Prime™ 3.0, the latest version of the leading-edge engineering calculation software for problem-solving, analysing and sharing engineering design knowledge. Mathcad Prime 3.1 from PTC (Needham, Mass.) features significantly improved calculation capabilities to allow more complex equations to be solved, faster. Mathcad offers hundreds of mathematical functions, the unlimited ability for users to define their own, the capability to solve equations both numerically and symbolically, and the power to solve the most complex systems of equations. This new release offers a broad range of new and improved capabilities, performance enhancements and overall benefits to users including:
  • Documentation enhancements: incorporate live, functioning maths within text; format maths regions; and create new worksheets based on existing personal or company standardised templates to help support adherence to standards for calculations and documentation
  • Custom functions: re-use existing algorithms already coded in C++, C, Fortran etc. to extend Mathcad capabilities.
  • Global Definition Operator: assign values to variables and define constants and parameters that can be used anywhere in the worksheet; define parameters close to the end result.
  • Numeric enhancements: use new fast matrix decomposition functions with support for pivoting and complex numbers.
  • Surface interpolation in contour plots: create a contour plot of a set of unordered 3D points leveraging a PTC Creo® surface interpolation algorithm.
  • Usability improvements: discover improvements to frequently used functionality (such as pasting images to headers and footers and overtyping equations) for increased efficiency.
  • CAD integration: link design inputs and calculation results to PTC Creo®, to perform test analyses, optimise geometry parameters and perform verification and validation steps on final designs; manage Mathcad Prime 3.1 worksheets directly from PTC Windchill®.
“We are pleased at how intuitively ideas are captured in PTC Mathcad Prime 3.1. Math is now represented in a way that is easy for the author to write – and easy for a reviewer to understand,” said Scot Shields, design engineer at Hagler Systems (Augusta, S. Carolina). “PTC Mathcad Prime 3.1 provides us with an environment where quick notes can be made, models can be built to test hypotheses and results can be verified. “As a result of a common tool that produces worksheets that can be easily used and understood by all levels in our organization – and for everything from documentation to sophisticated design studies, our engineers can now actually spend time engineering,” continued Shields. Mathcad Prime 3.1 is available now from Adept Scientific in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Norway. For editions and prices see www.adeptscience.com. PTC adds powerful new capabilities to Mathcad

Announcing the release of Mathcad Prime® 2.0 – the latest release of PTC’s (Needham, MA) engineering calculation software. Mathcad Prime 2.0, available from Adept Scientific (Letchworth, Herts), adds powerful new calculation features and advanced capabilities to an easy-to-learn, easy-to-use interface.

Mathcad Prime 2.0 delivers the following enhancements that improve the personal and engineering process productivity benefits currently offered by the Mathcad® product family:

  • Excel Component
    • Seamless and meaningful integration of Mathcad and Excel enables users to access and utilise data from existing spreadsheets and eliminates the need to convert data when introducing Mathcad.
  • Symbolic Algebra
    • Automates the process of explicit derivation to manipulate complex equations reducing errors and improving efficiency.
  • 3-dimensional (3-D) Plots
    • Enables engineers to easily manipulate, analyse and visualise complex data for more complete insight and better documentation.
  • Collapsible Areas
    • Allow users to manage content better and have more control over their workspace, by collapsing (placing out of view) details that are not essential at the moment, improving productivity and collaboration.
  • Computational Improvements including faster performance, 64-bit support, optimisation solver and multi-threading
    • Reduce computation time, remove limitations of data-set size and enable more exploration to be done in the concept phase. More design approaches can be evaluated with higher confidence, reducing errors and problems that occur later in detailed design.

PTC launches Mathcad® Prime 1.0™

PTC (Needham, MA), the Product Development Company®, has announced Mathcad® Prime 1.0™, the next generation of the company’s best-in-class engineering calculation software. The powerful capabilities of Mathcad, coupled with its open architecture and easy-to-use live mathematical notation functionality, allows engineers and organisations to streamline critical design processes. Mathcad Prime 1.0 delivers a new task-based user interface – enabling engineers to focus on developing engineering calculations rather than formatting design documents.

“The tutorials [in Mathcad Prime 1.0] are simply brilliant… They are easy to follow and quickly provide relevant information about the software. The new matrix selection and setup is vastly superior to the previous Mathcad releases. [Mathcad Prime 1.0 is]… easy, user-friendly and intuitive.” Martin Van Wyck, Project Manager, Metallurgical Processing, Bureau Veritas

Mathcad presents calculations, text and images in an understandable format, enabling knowledge capture, reuse and design verification, which results in improved product quality with faster time-to-market. As part of PTC’s product development system (PDS), Mathcad’s integration with other PTC products including Creo™ Elements/Pro™ (formerly Pro/ENGINEER) and Windchill® enables increased productivity, improved process efficiency and better collaboration between individuals and groups.

Highlights of Mathcad Prime 1.0 include:

• New task-based interface – promotes productivity while also enabling users to learn unfamiliar functions or features quickly and easily.

• Document-centric calculation environment – enables users to create detailed professional engineering design documents that include complex calculations quickly and easily, using live standard maths notation with text, images and graphs. Additionally, documents are easy to read and understand by non-Mathcad users, thus supporting effective communication of designs and engineering knowledge across the enterprise.

• Advanced maths exploration – powerful capabilities along with an environment to display, manipulate, analyse and plot data with full units support.

• Dynamic units support – full support for units throughout all calculations created in Mathcad Prime 1.0 improves process efficiency by helping to reduce errors and increase accuracy of results.

• Intuitive equation editor – WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) equation editor enables users to express problem constraints and solutions in natural maths notation allowing users to focus on the calculations and spend less time manipulating the document.

“PTC continues to invest in Mathcad technology to ensure that our customers have the best engineering calculations tool available,” said Jake Simpson, General Manager, Mathcad Business Unit, PTC. “Mathcad Prime 1.0 enables users to focus on solving complex engineering problems with less time spent on formatting design documents.  Content is captured in a format that is presentable so it is much easier to solve the problem and interpret the engineering intent.  The result is good design decisions supported by well structured and legible documentation. When coupled with best practices such as data management, Mathcad becomes a compelling standard for engineering teams to capture and manage critical design history as intellectual property.”
