| Question 13: When I open Microsoft Word I get an error
message, “The macro cannot be found or has been disabled because of your
macro security settings”, and the EndNote tools do not work. How can I fix
this?
Answer: If you get this error message when you click on the EndNote
tools in Word, then most likely one of the two EndNote Cite While You
Write (CWYW) files is not loading properly when Word starts. In Word go
to “Tools / Templates and Add-ins.” You should see two EndNote files listed
under “Global Templates and Add-ins”, and both files should be checked.
The files you should see here vary depending on what version of EndNote
and Word you are using:
EndNote 7 & Word 97/2000: EN7CWYW.dot & EN7Cwyw.wll
EndNote 7 & Word XP: EN7CWYW.dot & EN7Cwyw.WordXP.wll
EndNote 6 & Word 97/2000/XP: EN6CWYW.dot & EN6Cwyw.wll***
EndNote 5 & Word 97/2000/XP: EndNote5.CWYW.dot & EndNote5.Cwyw.wll
If one of these files is unchecked, check it, and click OK. If Word
returns a macro security warning, check the box for "always trust macros
from this source" and then "Enable macros." Close Word, and then start
Word again. The EndNote commands in the Tools menu should be functional.
If you go back to "Tools…Templates and Add-ins", both files should appear
and remain checked.
*** NOTE: If you have Word XP and "EN6Cwyw.WordXP.wll"
is present and checked, please go here and follow
the instructions to avoid a known Word XP memory leak problem. |
