Mathcad ­ A Brief History

1984

MathSoft, Inc. is founded to combine the power of mathematics, science and computers.

1986

MathSoft releases Mathcad version 1.0, a software program bridging the gap between spreadsheets and scratch pads to create a live interactive format for performing technical and mathematical calculations on a personal computer.

1987

MathSoft signs an agreement with Addison Wesley Publishing to develop an education version of Mathcad.

Mathcad named "Best of '87" by PC Magazine.

1988

PC Magazine names Mathcad "Best of '88".

Adept Scientific becomes exclusive Mathcad distributor in the UK and Ireland.

1989

Mathcad named "Editor's Choice" by PC Magazine.

1990

MathSoft releases Macintosh version of Mathcad.

1991

MathSoft releases Mathcad 3.0 technical calculation software for Microsoft Windows and the first Mathcad Electronic Books.

PC Magazine names Mathcad "Best of '91."

International Data Corp. (IDC) names Mathcad the clear product leader in technical calculation software tools.

1992

Ziff-Davis Europe cites Mathcad for Software Excellence in the Education Category.

MathSoft releases Mathcad version 3.1.

1993

MathSoft releases Mathcad version 4.0.

MathSoft is named "Reader's Choice" by Scientific Computing and Automation.

1994

MathSoft releases Mathcad version 5.0 and Mathcad PLUS 5.0.

Mathcad wins Personal Engineering Reader's Poll.

Mathcad wins Windows Magazine seal of recommendation.

1995

MathSoft offers free World Wide Web Mathbrowser enabling sharing of interactive maths and technical data.

Mathcad named in Windows Magazine Win Top 100 software products.

MathSoft releases Mathcad PLUS 6.0 for Windows.

MathSoft acquires TriMetrix, Inc. of Seattle, Washington, makers of Axum graphing and data analysis software. A link to Axum is built into Mathcad PLUS 6.0

1996

Mathcad PLUS 6.0 wins Scientific Computing and Automation Reader's Choice Award.

Mathcad PLUS 6.0 wins PC Plus Performance Award

Axum 5 released.

Mathcad PLUS 6 for Macintosh released, as a native Power Macintosh application.

Mathsoft names Adept Scientific their Worldwide Top Distributor for Sales, Marketing and Technical Support.

1997

Mathcad PLUS 6.0 wins PC Pro magazine's 'Recommended' award.

MathSoft releases Mathcad 7 Professional for Windows 95/NT.

UK's Open University purchases 5000 licences for Mathcad 7 Professional on day of release.

Mathcad 7 Professional receives Analyst's Choice Award from PC Week Magazine.

Mathcad 7 Treasury released.

1998

OLE Automation and ActiveX scripting capabilities added to Mathcad 7 Professional.

New range of Mathcad Libraries, Extension Packs and Electronic Books released.

Mathcad Discussion List, a worldwide listserver forum, launched.
