Mechanics of Materials

Mechanics of Materials is a MapleConnect package that offers solutions to linear and elastic beam bending problems. Using MapleÕs powerful maths engine, problem specifications can be formulated in numeric or symbolic form, offering graphical and analytical solutions for beam sections with up to 100 separate segments. The functions yield impressive graphics and detailed analytical solutions, ideal for education and training as well as in mechanical and civil engineering applications.

The package contains eight functions that perform various calculations based on the theoretical foundation of:

  • Method of differential equation integration of linear elastic behaviour
  • Improved theory of S.P.Timoshenko, taking into consideration shearing deformations for simple bend boundary conditions and shear angle boundary conditions
  • Winkler Foundation Model

With Mechanics of Materials, users can generate graphical representations of beam deformations and calculate epures of shearing forces and bending moments, and more!

Features

  • Flexibility in user input forms Ð symbolic or numeric data input offers the range of general to design-specific solutions for beam bending problems
  • Detailed analytical solutions
    • Accuracy is maintained Ð no round-off errors
    • Further manipulation of the system is possible
    • Optimization of the general form expression for use with similar beam problems
  • Impressive graphical representations
  • Ideal for education and training applications

Intended Audience:

  • Researchers, teachers and engineers who work with applied and structural mechanics and strength of materials
  • Students of all levels of post-secondary education
  • Mechanical and civil engineers

Applications of Mechanics of Materials include:

  • Education courses in Applied Mechanics
  • Engineering applications involving the strength and mechanics of materials
  • Foundations of structural mechanics
