| This converter imports data from the PerkinElmer Spectrum for Windows IR file
format. It is designed to import all types of FT-IR, Raman and NIR spectra, interferograms
and chromatograms stored using this software. This converter can be used for import only
and does not support export of Galactic data files back to the Spectrum for Windows format. However, it is reported that the Spectrum for Windows software can read Galactic SPC files directly without requiring any extra translation. When at all possible, the instrument and data acquisition parameters are imported along with the spectral data. This information is stored in the Audit Trail Log Text portion of the Galactic file. In addition, the processing history and other specific PerkinElmer software parameters will be stored in the Audit Trail log in a special section beginning with "[PESPCTRM_beg]". Note that the Spectrum for Windows software can automatically read the older PerkinElmer IR Data Manager files. The Spectrum for Windows software can also be used to save file is this older format. In addition, many of the example files shipped with the Spectrum for Windows software are in this older format. Often, these files use the same file extensions as the Spectrum for Windows software. These older format IRDM files are not compatible with this converter. Please use the PE-IRDM or PERKIN-E converters for files in the IRDM format. The Spectrum IR software can also save files in Galactic SPC (PE GRAMS) format. Please note that some versions of Spectrum IR can create invalid SPC files. Check your software version and contact PerkinElmer for more information. Some Spectrum for Windows
interferogram files do not contain enough information for the converter to recognize the
data properly. These files cannot be properly computed to a single beam spectrum using the
Icompute application (available with the IR/Raman Application Pack). If this capability is
required, the file header must be altered after import. Use the File Information
application to change the Y unit type to "Interferogram" and use the Shift
application to set the X value of the first data point to the laser frequency (usually
7899 or 15798 cm-1). |
