SetupEd is an installation script editor.
SetupEd allows creation and maintenance of scripts for use with our generalised Windows-based install program,
SETUP which is also included free of charge. (Note: SetupEd and the generic installer are supplied with the Windows version of Winteracter.)
Unlike some installation builders, SetupEd does not require that your full installation file set be in place before creating the installation script. In addition, it can customise and test the dialogs and optional backdrops used in the install program. Its Verify option can be used to determine if all referenced files are in their correct locations.
Various installation functions are supported, including:
- Installation directory selection
- Licence agreement confirmation
- Sub-directory creation
- Start menu group creation
- Desktop shortcut creation
- Environment variable assignment
- Filetype association
- Execution of an external program (e.g. a licence manager)
The generalised installation program is freely distributable with Winteracter based applications. It can be used to install applications on Windows 98/NT4 and above.
