Using Cursors to Measure Data

You can measure the curves of 2D and 3D diagrams using cursors. The FlexPro worksheet is available to you for optimal on-screen cursor measurement of data. Here you can arrange up to eight diagrams and thus optimize the use of space on your screen. In each diagram you can make up to two cursors active. The second cursor serves as a reference point for calculating delta values. You can also copy the area between the two cursors to the clipboard or use it directly as a selection for additional analyses and presentations. Especially for analyzing spectral series you can use harmonic cursors to mark the harmonic waves. You can move the cursor along the curves or freely over the surface of the diagram using the keyboard or moving it with the mouse. Or you can click on a certain location to position the cursor there. You can also use buttons to navigate a cursor from peak to peak. You can invalidate values below the active cursor or the entire area between the cursors, e.g., to delete outliers from a dataset. By dragging with the mouse, you can even change the underlying numerical value. This function is ideal for tasks such as fine-tuning characteristic curves, etc.

The cursor coordinates are displayed in the coordinates window. In general, the X, Y and, where applicable, Z values as well as delta values are displayed. You can, however, adjust the coordinates window in any way you want and, for instance, display a table with special calculations that depend on the cursors. Using drag & drop you can copy the displayed coordinates into the Explorer to be able to display them later, for instance. You can, however, also copy the complete coordinates window into a diagram or a document as a static picture or as a dynamic object.

You can zoom and scroll in diagrams any way you want to. This allows you to enlarge any section or expand the area between the cursors. As soon as the curve is displayed stretched out, a scrollbar appears on the edge of the screen. You can also stretch, extend or move the section of the picture in steps using different icons. You can undo all zoom operations in steps or in one move. Using the auto zoom function you can use a diagram as an outline presentation for a second one. The area selected within the diagram outline between the cursors is then automatically enlarged when displayed in the second diagram.

At certain cursor positions you can place markers where the coordinates or any amount of text can be displayed. This allows you to highlight special events in the curve.

In addition to the worksheet, the cursors are also available directly in individual diagrams or in FlexPro documents. You can also use the worksheet in connection with a document by inserting links to the same diagram into a document as well as into a worksheet. Zoom operations that you perform within the worksheet will then also occur within the document. You can then use the worksheet for work on-screen and the document for printing.

Product Reviews

"Because it offers and delivers simplicity I made the serious mistake, at first approach, of thinking this a simple and straightforward package. Nothing could be further from the truth; the more I became acquainted with it, the more intriguing its hidden depths and byways became. It is unique in several ways and distinctive in several more."
