Smart Structure
Challenge:
Design a control system to dampen the flexible
modes of a smart structure.
Description:
This experiment consists of a flexible beam clamped
at one end of the structure. The opposite end of the structure is equipped
with a servomotor that drives an eccentric load. The objective is to
dampen out the vibrations in the beam by driving the motor. The experiment
includes the following components:
| 1) |
Base plate instrumented with a strain
gage |
| 2) |
Flexible beam |
| 3) |
Motor and encoder. The motor drives the
load through a gear ratio of 70:1. The encoder measures the
angle using a 1024 count disc which in quadrature results
in 4096 counts/rev. |
| 4) |
Inertia load consisting of two rigid beams
and a round crossbeam. |
