IMDU Base Unit
strong>Challenge:
Flexible And Cost-Effective Industrial Plant Emulator.
Description - IMDU Base
Unit:
Based on a modular and open-architecture design,
Quanser's expandable Industrial Mechatronic Drives Unit (IMDU) offers
a highly practical way to teach and research real-world servo control
fundamentals including backlash and friction compensation, as well
as haptics and teleoperation, web winding control, minimization of
torsional vibration, and coupled high-order implementations of complex
industrial processes. The IMDU is also an excellent tool for industrial
R&D applications, allowing for the practical implementation of
applied control.
Two shafts are motor-driven via a 3:1 belt drive while
the other two shafts are free to rotate inside low-friction
bearing blocks. Each shaft boasts a high-resolution encoder
and both 100 W motors are powered by linear current amplifiers.
One of the motors may be used as a drive motor while
the other can be used to impose disturbances. The design
features the ability to emulate the "real world" by introducing
non-linear properties to the system.
