Takes on supply and support of EndNote, Reference Manager, ProCite, StatView products

Adept Scientific plc (Letchworth, Herts, UK), the UK's leading distributor of specialist personal computer products for scientists and engineers, today signed an Agreement with Cherwell Scientific Ltd (Oxford, UK) by which, with effect from 1st May 2000, Adept will take over Cherwell's software distribution business in the United Kingdom, Irish Republic and Germany.

The Agreement covers the range of market-leading products supplied by Cherwell under the CiteWise.com branding. These include EndNote, Reference Manager and ProCite, bibliographic and reference management tools developed by ISI ResearchSoft (Berkeley, California); ChemDraw and ChemOffice, chemical structure drawing and information software from CambridgeSoft Corporation (Cambridge, Massachusetts); and the statistical analysis product StatView from the SAS Institute (Cary, North Carolina).

Announcing the Agreement, Cherwell Scientific's Chief Executive Tim Cook explained: "We have made this move in order to allow Cherwell Scientific to focus on developing a new range of innovative java applications for the healthcare and research informatics markets. Amongst these products are ChemSymphony (see www.chemsymphony.com) and Cyrillic (see www.cyrillicsoftware.com).

"Adept Scientific has an extremely good reputation for customer service and support expertise in the scientific and technical sectors. Adept has many years of experience in providing software solutions to scientific and technical authors, researchers and teachers, and a complementary range of products and expertise to those of Cherwell. I am sure they will continue to provide our customers with the best software and service for their needs."

Dr Paul Bragg, Managing Director of Adept said in a message to CiteWise.com customers: "We look forward to helping you to get the most out of your investment in these leading-edge software tools, and assure you that we will maintain and build upon Cherwell Scientific's excellent reputation in customer care and support."

ISI ResearchSoft, part of The Thomson Corporation, is the dominant supplier of desktop bibliographic tools for authors and researchers and authors in the fields of medicine, science, social science and technology. Products such as EndNote, Reference Manager and ProCite are designed to let users scan in seconds huge literature databases for references relevant to their studies, and import citations into their own papers ready for publication. Reference Web Poster allows them to share over the Web personal citation libraries created in any of these three packages.

ChemDraw, ChemOffice and other products in the portfolio of chemistry software tools from CambridgeSoft Corporation are aimed at chemists in research and industry who need to draw chemical structures, predict chemical properties and search large databases of chemical information. They are the most widely used tools of their type around the world. Adept Scientific has supplied and supported these tools for many years, and offers extensive expertise to all users who have purchased them either from Adept or Cherwell.

StatView, from the world-renowned SAS Institute, is software designed to make powerful statistical analysis techniques readily available to scientific, medical and technical researchers. Running on Windows and Macintosh platforms, StatView is an intuitive, coherent desktop tool for managing, analysing and presenting technical data.

The Agreement also covers the gNMR program, a specialist software tool for chemists that simulates nuclear magnetic resonance spectra of individual molecules.
