Press ReleasesCombination of high performance technologies from Maplesoft helps teachers focus on concepts, not tools

Adept Scientific (Letchworth, Herts) announces new releases of Maplesoft™ (Waterloo, Canada) core products – MapleSim™, the high-performance, multi-domain modelling and simulation tool, and Maple™, the technical computing software for mathematicians, engineers and scientists.

These products are based on Maplesoft’s core technologies, including the World’s most advanced symbolic computation engine and revolutionary physical modelling techniques. Together, they provide a platform where students can work confidently with everything from theoretical concepts to the subtleties and art of design.

MapleSim 2 combines an intuitive physical modelling environment with powerful symbolic techniques that generate model equations in symbolic form, helping teachers to quickly demonstrate the connection between concepts and the underlying mathematical theory. The new release introduces extraordinary 3-D visualisation and animation tools which easily transform multibody models into realistic animations, providing greater insight into the system behaviour. It also provides tools for managing results from multiple simulations, simplifying a notoriously tedious and confusing task.

At the core of MapleSim lies Maple, the technical computing software which contains a highly advanced symbolic computation engine, powerful numeric solvers and an intuitive technical document interface. Enhancements to Maple automatically benefit MapleSim users, as well as the many people who use Maple directly.

Maple 13 includes completely new 3-D plotting facilities, powerful new learning and problem-solving tools and additional resources to enable users to find answers to questions quickly. New plotting facilities include extensive annotation tools and fly-through animations, making 3-D plots more meaningful and easier to interpret. New tools, such as tutors for complex variables and numerical analysis, point-and-click access to control systems design tools and enhanced step-by-step problem solvers for calculus, help students explore, visualise, and understand mathematical concepts.

Maple 13’s leading-edge solvers include revolutionary techniques for finding solutions to differential equations that are beyond the scope of standard methods. This release also contains major expansions to the Maple Portal, including new tutorials and more specialised content. Apart from helping maths students perform hundreds of common tasks, the new portal also includes extensive sections designed for engineering students and math educators.

“We are excited to be able to offer universities a complete software solution for mathematics and modelling in research and teaching,” said Jim Cooper, President and CEO of Maplesoft. “With intelligent algorithms for solving a variety of problems, students and teachers in mathematics, science and engineering can focus on the meaning and application of concepts rather than spend time on understanding the tools. Using these products, they can solve more challenges in the classroom and in their research.”
