Adept Scientific plc, the UK’s leading distributor of specialist personal computer products, announces the immediate availability of EndNote® X1 for Mac® OS X from the Thomson ResearchSoft division of Thomson Scientific (Carlsbad, California).
As the bibliographic management software used by millions of researchers, librarians and students EndNote X1 Mac introduces new functionality with AppleScript® compatibility for key EndNote tasks, custom groups to view and manage subsets of references, seamless connectivity with EndNote Web to simplify collaboration with colleagues and more.
“EndNote X1 Mac users can now create groups and build AppleScripts to streamline tasks within EndNote as well as between other applications,” said Keith MacGregor, EVP Academic and Government Markets, Thomson Scientific. “With the breadth of new features in EndNote X1 and seamless connectivity with EndNote Web via ISI Web of Knowledge, Mac users have a versatile and collaborative environment to work with colleagues around the world.”
Group References for Instant Access
References can be now be dragged and dropped into subject folders for immediate access to reference subsets. Each EndNote Mac library can have up to 500 custom groups, and action-specific groups are automatically created for search results, file imports and reference transfers from EndNote Web, the new Web-based research and writing tool. Instant access to groups enables more efficient reference management for users.
Automate Key EndNote Tasks with AppleScript
Repetitive tasks can be automated: writing text to record fields from other applications; importing and exporting records to and from EndNote; and formatting reference bibliographies. Shortcuts for these processes enable users to be more efficient while ensuring consistency and accuracy.
Collaborate with colleagues and students using EndNote Web
EndNote Web, a Web-based basic bibliographic tool available as an institutional subscription, integrates seamlessly with EndNote X1, providing students and researchers with an improved way to manage references when away from their desktop computers. EndNote users can collaborate with colleagues and students by sharing EndNote Web folders and users can cite references from both EndNote and EndNote Web in a single paper and transfer libraries easily. EndNote and EndNote Web allows users to be even more productive and mobile.
More New Features
EndNote X1 provides time-saving enhancements that are tailored to how researchers work today. A Quick Search function is included in the default Mac toolbar, and EndNote X1 uses the native Mac OS X spellchecker, providing a Dictionary Converter to easily convert custom dictionaries from earlier versions of EndNote. Users can now view all authors for a reference in the main list display, and organise up to 45 files-PDFs, graphics, PowerPoints and more-per reference using the “file attachment” field. Custom reference types can be exported and imported between computers easily, so users can transfer their personal settings between computers.
EndNote X1 also includes new and updated files for searching online resources, importing references and formatting bibliographies – 1,500+ connections to online sources, 600+ import filters and over 2,800 publishing styles. These and other improvements requested by students, researchers and scholarly writers make EndNote the favoured reference management solution for millions worldwide.
