Press ReleasesNew Maple Package for Solving Beam Bending Problems

Mechanics of MaterialsTM is a new add-on to Maple, the world’s most advanced mathematical problem-solving software, that offers solutions to linear and elastic beam bending problems. Using Maple’s powerful maths engine, problem specifications can be formulated in numeric or symbolic form, offering graphical and analytical solutions for beam sections with up to 100 separate segments. The functions yield impressive graphics and detailed analytical solutions, ideal for education and training applications.

Available to Maple users in the UK, Ireland and Nordic countries from Adept Scientific, Mechanics of Materials contains eight functions that perform various calculations based on the theoretical foundation of:

  • Method of differential equation integration of linear elastic behaviour
  • Improved theory of S. P. Timoshenko, taking into consideration shearing deformations for simple bend boundary conditions and shear angle boundary conditions
  • Winkler Foundation Model

With Mechanics of Materials, users can generate graphical representations of beam deformations and calculate epures of shearing forces and bending moments, and more. Detailed analytical solutions maintain accuracy and avoid rounding errors, and very high quality graphical representations can be generated.

Users can input symbolic or numeric data, so a very broad range of general and design-specific solutions for beam bending problems is available. Further manipulation of the system is possible, and the general form expression can be optimised for use with similar beam problems.

Mechanics of Materials is an ideal companion to Maple for researchers and mechanical or civil engineers who work with applied and structural mechanics and strength of materials. It is also ideal for education and training; suitable for students at all levels of post-secondary education learning the foundations of structural mechanics and applied mechanics.

Mechanics of Materials is published as part of the MapleConnect program. MapleConnect is a developer support program that enables Maple users to commercialise applications that they design and develop based on Maplesoft products. Like other MapleConnect products, it can be purchased as a downloadable product from the Adept Scientific WebStore at www.adeptstore.com.

Maple and other products in the Maplesoft range are supplied and supported in the UK, Ireland, Scandinavia and Finland by Adept Scientific (www.adeptscience.com).

With offices in the UK, USA, Germany and throughout the Nordic region, Adept Scientific is one of the world’s leading suppliers of software and hardware products for research, scientific, engineering and technical applications on desktop computers.
