Eduserv Athens helps target the right offer
Adept Scientific, the first to use Eduserv Athens access and identity management service to deliver offerings to a specific customer base
Eduserv Athens today announced that Adept Scientific plc (The Technical Computing Software Specialists) now uses the leading access and identity management system as a sales and marketing tool, identifying customers eligible for preferential product offerings.
Visitors to Adept’s recently launched education WebStore (http://edustore.adeptscience.co.uk) simply enter their Athens account information, which verifies whether they are a UK higher or further education student or staff member. The WebStore then presents specific offerings available to members of that visitor’s home institution. Adept’s WebStore offers discounted student and education prices on popular software packages, such as EndNote, Mathcad, Maple and ChemOffice.
“This is an exciting and innovative use for Athens,” said Lyn Norris, manager, Eduserv Athens. “Until now, Athens has provided secure access to hundreds of e-resources. Students and educational staff can now benefit financially from the ability to verify their educational status.”
Athens’ sister service, Eduserv Chest, brokered the discounted prices and best value licensing terms available through the WebStore. Since 1988, Chest has negotiated preferential software and online information licence terms for universities, colleges, associated education institutions, libraries and charities.
Adept Scientific’s Managing Director Dr. Paul Bragg says that to find the best deal, WebStore visitors do not have to sort through the full range of academic products on offer.
“Based on the Athens account information, our systems recognise whether a visitor is eligible for discounted software. This streamlines the process of providing the needed ID required to buy at a special price, simplifying a customer’s journey through the store,” said Dr. Bragg.
All UK higher and further education institutions can register with Athens, and all individual members of these institutions are eligible for an Athens username. By visiting www.athensams.net/orglist.php, individuals can check to see if their institution is registered with Athens, check the classification of their institution and find contact details should they wish to apply for an Athens username or have problems with their Athens username.
To date, Athens has served as the de facto standard within UK higher and further education and the health sectors, for secure access management to hundreds of internal and external online services and resources. However, access and identity management systems have now begun to help businesses and public service agencies build personalised relationships with customers and clients.
