Press ReleasesThomson ISI Researchsoft launches Reference Manager 11 for Windows

Powerful bibliographic software that offers a Web publishing tool, subject bibliographies and more

Thomson ISI ResearchSoft has announced a major upgrade to Reference Manager®, the bibliographic software that streamlines research, writing and publishing for corporate, government and academic researchers worldwide. Reference Manager 11 delivers new ways to view and share reference collections; publish Reference Manager databases on the Web; create subject bibliographies instantly; exchange references with colleagues; connect to data visualisation tools like RefViz in just one step and support workgroups with new network utilities.

“Reference Manager 11 advances collaboration among colleagues, whether it’s over a network, an intranet or the Web,” said David L. Kochalko, President, Thomson ISI ResearchSoft. “The new Web publisher feature enables individuals to post databases to the Web in seconds, and organisations to integrate reference collections into their enterprise portals. We are pleased to extend the capabilities of Reference Manager to the Web and to offer innovative features that benefit both the author and publishing communities.”

Publish Reference Manager databases on the Web
Sharing reference collections with colleagues anytime, anywhere is easy using the Web publisher in Reference Manager 11. Users can post up to 15 Reference Manager databases to the Web or to an intranet in seconds with Reference Manager’s built-in Web server and simple Web publishing tool. Colleagues can access the Web publisher site to search, add, edit and export references in RIS and XML formats. Reference Manager 11 databases can also be accessed by third party applications and enterprise portals using SOAP and WSDL standards.

Create Subject Bibliographies
The new Subject Bibliography feature in Reference Manager 11 saves users steps and time when creating a bibliography with topic headings. For example, simply select the field “Author” to view a bibliography organised by author headings. The look of a subject bibliography can be controlled by selecting a favourite output style and a sort order for references. This feature gives users an easy way to update their curricula vitae and reading lists.

Connect with all things reference related
Now users can capture references directly from colleagues’ Microsoft® Word papers with the export travelling library feature. Reference Manager 11 can also import and export files in XML format enabling use with other applications. Users can move references between Reference Manager 11 and data visualisation tools, such as RefViz™ by ISI ResearchSoft, in one step to explore research literature visually looking for major themes and topics. Reference Manager 11 helps users locate full text faster by connecting to an institution’s online resources using OpenURL standards. With many new import filters, connection files and output styles for over 950 journals, Reference Manager 11 provides all the tools necessary to successfully tackle research, writing and publishing projects of any size.

Use Network Version for workgroups
Reference Manager 11 network version centralises access to content files so that everyone on the network is using the latest import filters and output styles. Network administrators can use the MSI service for easy installation and simultaneous updates to workstations. The network version is licensed for workstations and concurrent use and includes a built-in metering utility.

Reference Manager 11 is designed for Windows® 2000 and XP, and builds bibliographies in Microsoft® Word® 2000, XP, 2003 and WordPerfect® 2000, 2002, 2003.
