Compact interface links real-world signals to USB for equipment
For equipment designers wishing to be able to link standard I/O signals to a USB port, the new PMD-1208LS Personal Measurement Device from Adept Scientific is the ideal low-cost product. Designed by data acquisition specialist MCC, the PMD-1208LS is a neat, functional little unit which connects a USB port to eight single-ended or four differential analogue inputs, as well as offering two channels of 10-bit analogue output, a 32-bit counter and 16-bits digital I/O.
Ideal as a bridging product in a wide range of instrumentation and control applications, the PMD-1208LS will be of particular interest to original equipment manufacturers who wish to buy in the hardware but stay in control of the software. The device comes with MCC’s acclaimed “Universal Library” software which enables it to be controlled by Visual Basic, C++ and other standard programming languages.
The analogue channels feature 12-bit resolution and sample rates up to 1.2 kilosamples/sec (8 ks/s for up to 4000 samples). All required power can be taken from the USB port. Mounting options include magnetic and Velcro mounts along with a standard attachment hole and a specific OEM version is available for PCB mounting.
The PMD-1208LS is also supported by most popular data acquisition applications packages including DASYLab, SoftWIRE and LabVIEW.
