8-channel strain gauge simulator boards
The DNx-AO-358 simulated strain gauge output boards from United Electronic Industries (Walpole, MA) have joined Adept Scientific’s (Letchworth, Herts) data acquisition product range.
The boards are available in two models — the DNA version, for use with UEI’s popular PowerDNA Cubes, and the DNR version, for rack-mounting in a PowerDNR RACKtangle or HalfRACK chassis. Both versions provide eight channels of simulated strain gauge output based on signals from real variable resistor bridges that accurately duplicate the behaviour of the strain gauges simulated.
Each version may be ordered in a full or half/quarter bridge configuration with 120, 350 or 1000 ohm bridge completion resistances. These new boards support both DC and AC excitation (DC to25 kHz range) with a system bandwidth of 250 kHz, minimum. The output update rate is 0 to 5 kHz. As an added feature each board also includes an on-board A/D converter that monitors excitation voltage to an accuracy of ±10 mV.
The boards are ideal for simulator applications in which an on-board device expects a strain gauge signal as an input. They are also useful for testing and diagnosing errors in a wide range of strain gauge systems.
The DNx-AO-358 boards include software drivers compatible with all popular operating systems such as Windows, Linux, QNX, VXWorks, RTX and other popular real-time operating systems. Windows users may also take advantage of the powerful UEIDAQ Framework, which provides a simple-to-use software interface to all popular Windows programming languages as well as DAQ and control applications such as LabVIEW, DASYLab and MATLAB.
According to UEI President Shaun Miller, “With the new DNx-AO-358 our customers can now design, build and test systems that require a dynamic strain gauge input without having to build a complex physical input device. For example, we are using the 358 ourselves at UEI for production testing of our strain gauge analogue input boards.”

What do our Customers say about us?
At 13-years old, my daughter’s research manuscript has been accepted for publication in a top tier peer-reviewed Environmental Science journal and OriginPro 8.6 will allow her to export the graphs in a wide variety of formats which can meet any publisher’s requirements. Kudos to OriginLab for designing innovative and intuitive software that can span the needs of both a burgeoning young scientist like my daughter to a PhD expert in their field. It is hard to imagine that other products offer this extraordinary level of user versatility.Michael Grimmett, MD, FACP, FACS Ophthalmologist Palm Beach Gardens, Florida

Yet again Origin and OriginPro upholds its foremost status as the best purposeful and all-embracing data analysis and graphing software on the market. Although other software packages exist, few are as straightforward to use, flexible, and high-quality when it comes to performing challenging data analysis or creating publication superior graphs.Keith J. Stevenson, Professor of Chemistry, The University of Texas at Austin
Thank you for all your efforts. A perfect example of what support should be. Again thank you.GT
