I'm installing X11.app on 10.4. When I try to install the package my hard drive shows a red exclaimation point, and gives the error message "You cannot install X11 on this volume. Newer Software already exists on your computer."

The "newer software" is 10.4 itself -- you are using an old X11 installer. Please use the "Optional Installs" installer on the Tiger DVD; scroll the window to see it.
