When I paste my equation onto my Web Page I find that it has a white background. Can I change this to transparent?

This depends on which product you are pasting the equations into. If you are copying equations directly from MathType and pasting them into a web editor like FrontPage, there is no way to control the background colour in MathType. However, you could change it in a bitmap or photo editing program like Paint or Photoshop.
If you save equations as individual GIF files directly from MathType, then you can specify the background colour in MathType's Web and GIF Preferences.
