Can I use a foot switch to request data from an instrument?

Quality Monitor 83CA I am considering using Quality Monitor to collect data from various instruments on the shop floor. One of the instruments, a dial counter does not have a button to press when you want to take a reading could I use a foot pedal instead? Yes you could use a foot switch to activate the capture of the reading. Our experience is limited but the links below should prove useful.
