Maple 8.01 is an all-platform update for Maple 8. It address the following problems:
- Fixes the Maplet-triggered disappearing cursor problem. The cursor inside a worksheet sometimes disappears completely. This behaviour occurs most often when Maplets are used (including such Maplets as the File Preference box and the Spell-Checker). This is an all-platform problem.
- Modify Export to HTML to produce files that can be read by all browsers. Newer versions of some browsers cannot read HTML files exported from Maple 8. Current testing suggests the problem occurs for I.E. 5.5+, but there may be others. In addition, we have created a downloadable update tool to allow users to convert any existing HTML files created by Maple 8. This download is available from our website, and referenced by an FAQ.
- Maplet plot callback bug. A problem where a plot button becomes disabled if the previous command triggered a Maple error (e.g. a syntax error if the input was invalid). This weakness is exposed in the Calculus 1 Maplets. Affects all platforms.
- If the Windows machine has another version of the Java Runtime library installed "publicly", Maplets sometimes stop working. This means that sometimes the spell checker and file preferences dialogue inside Maple also stop working. The fix is to force Maple to only use the JRE installed with the product. This problem was corrected in July, so only customers who received Maple 8 before then could experience this problem.
- Uses International JRE to fix problems with non-Latin characters in path names. Problems typically first appear in installation, where no icons are installed anywhere.
- Expanding sections in the worksheet - worksheet no longer scrolls to the bottom when sections are expanded across screen boundaries. Affects all platforms.
- Export to HTML no longer expands and exports contents of uncollapsed sections when frames are used. This problem was first introduced in Maple 8. The corresponding problem when exporting without frames still exists (and probably has since this feature was first introduced, and so is probably expected/desirable behaviour for some users.)
- Solaris 9 support.
- Installer - make it possible to install shortcuts to desktop and start menu (Windows only).
- Improve the installation process for DEC and IRIX customers. The installer will give a warning to go look at readme for details on DEC and IRIX. The readme has been updated to discuss extended platforms and how to get them. Affects DEC and IRIX users only. Note: It is still the case that new customers ordering DEC or IRIX versions of Maple 8 should be sent the Extended Unix CD from the beginning.
