The definitive statement is:
There is no way for data modified in Quality Analyst to be written back to a database you are connected to via ODBC. There is no security level for a clever user to circumvent as there is absolutely NO code in Quality Analyst to write to an external database. All of the connectivity code is written exclusively to READ the database - there is no way to get QA to WRITE to the database at all.
