PostgreSQL is a required product for Maple T.A. to run correctly and when installing on a Windows Vista machine, there can be some complications due to Windows Vista's permissions.

If you receive the "Database Cluster Initialisation Failed" error during installation on your Windows Vista (or later) machine, please do the following:

1. Completely remove all instances of PostgreSQL. Do so using the Control Panel option called Programs and Features.
After uninstalling PostgreSQL, be sure to delete the PostgreSQL folder from the Program Files directory of your machine. You may need extra permissions to do this.

2. Go to the official PostgreSQL website and click on Downloads. Then click File Browser > binaries > v8.3.7 > win32 > postgresql-8.3.7-1.zip. Then choose the country you reside in as the download.

3. Extract the files and install using the file called postgresql-8.3.msi.
