The board number is assigned by Instacal to each Measurement Computing board installed on the PC. It is not the same as the board serial number, as it is recorded only in the CB.CFG configuration file created by Instacal. The Universal Library requires you to specify the board number in each function call, and some software will also ask you to specify the board number or to set the board number to a certain value.
To check the board number, close all open data acquisition software, and launch Instacal (for Windows XP it's Start > Programs > Measurement Computing > Instacal). Instacal will list each installed board preceded with the assigned Board Number (e.g. Board #0 means that the board number is zero.)

To change the board number of a particular board in the list, right-click on it and select Change Board#

Select the new board number you want from the drop down list and click OK.
