I want to try the demo of Mathcad Prime 1.0, but it seems that I have to also have the demo of Mathcad 15. Is this the case?

Yes, unfortunately PTC have made it this way. If you have Mathcad 13 or older, you must install both the Mathcad 15 and the Mathcad Prime 1.0 demos.
If you have Mathcad 14, you must un-install this before installing the Mathcad 15/Mathcad Prime 1.0 demos.
