High Speed DSP-Based
I/O Engine for Virtually
Any Application

A novel approach to peripheral I/O has produced Innovative Integration's M44, a DSP-based I/O engine with a modular design that allows users or OEMs to configure a single board for virtually any application.

Supplied and supported in the UK by master distributor Adept Scientific, the M44 is a PCI bus-based, flexible I/O engine that is ideal for OEMs or end users who are developing high speed, high precision data acquisition or control systems. It offers comprehensive onboard functionality plus two I/O expansion module sites which allow peripheral I/O to be easily and inexpensively integrated to suit the specific needs of the applications.

Texas Instruments' TMS3202C44 floating point DSP, which lies at the heart of the M44, provides the engine's computational power plus six DMA channels and four interprocessor communications ports. This acts as a data collection and processing engine, that provides up to 60 Mflops and sustains a massive data transfer rate of 50 Mbytes/sec over the bus mastering PCI interface.

Dual M44 module sites allow I/O to be easily tailored for specific applications. For example, the high speed M44AIX module has four 16-bit A/D channels, and offers a sample rate of 2.5 MHz. This could be combined with the M44DIG, which handles dual async/sync communications and provides 32-bit digital I/O with software programmable direction control.
For applications requiring A/D and D/A data transfer, the M44A4D4 module offers four 16-bit A/D inputs and four 16-bit D/A outputs on a single board. The M44TERM can be used to expand this to provide 32 input channels: its integral sample and hold mechanism allows simultaneous sampling across all channels.

Backing up the M44 is a sophisticated family of development tools that allow users to write and debug programs for the system. These include a C compiler, linker and debugger, the Zuma software toolset for DSP programs, and the Code Hammer Debugger. The Zuma toolset is a 250 function DSP and peripheral control library which offers a wide range of target DSP example programs in source form as well as a device driver and dynamic link library with numerous PC example programs. The Code Hammer Debugger gives full speed emulation over a 3 m cable, and combines Innovative's JTAG emulator card with the Code Composer Windows hosted development environment.

M44 modules and the full range of Innovative Integration products are supplied and supported by Adept Scientific plc, 6 Business Centre West, Avenue One, Letchworth, Herts. SG6 2HB; telephone (01462) 480055, fax (01462) 480213, email
