Adept Voted World's Top
Distributor By Leading
US Corporation

Letchworth based Adept Scientific plc, the UK's leading provider of personal computer solutions for scientists, engineers and other technical professionals, has received a tremendous accolade from its largest US supplier, MathSoft Inc: "Worldwide Top Distributor 1996 for Sales, Marketing and Technical Support".

MathSoft, based in Boston, is the leading developer of mathematical software for desktop computers, including Mathcad, an easy-to-use, interactive tool for performing mathematical calculations, and Axum, a program for producing high-quality technical graphs and charts.

The accolade, in the form of an engraved plaque, was presented at a dinner for Adept's entire workforce, hosted by MathSoft, at Hitchin Priory. Handing the plaque to Dr Paul Bragg, managing director of Adept Scientific, MathSoft vice-president for international sales Paul Sloane paid tribute to the hard work, professionalism and expertise of Adept's sales, marketing and support teams. Thanks to their efforts, Adept's sales of MathSoft products are now greater than any of MathSoft's 50+ distributors across the world.

"It was a nail-biting finish," said Paul Bragg. "Germany, Japan and the UK are MathSoft's largest markets outside the US, but this year we've increased our sales substantially and pulled ahead. Shortly before the end of MathSoft's 1996 fiscal year, the Japanese distributor put on a sudden spurt and we were neck and neck.

"But we thrive on competition, and this gave us the incentive to pull out all the stops and race ahead of our year's target to end up as No.1. Considering how much bigger the overall German and Japanese software markets both are compared to the UK, we think this is a great achievement!"

Adept Scientific has worked closely with Mathsoft since 1989, and many of Adept's highly successful UK sales strategies and marketing materials have been adopted by MathSoft for worldwide use. Adept has also built up a very high reputation for technical support of its products. Scientists and engineers who purchase from Adept know that if they run into any problems with their software, a call to one of Adept's highly-qualified, experienced technical specialists will result in a quick response and a solution that works.

Founded in 1984, since 1986 Adept Scientific has been based at the Letchworth Business Park, where its facilities include a comfortable, well-equipped customer training and seminar centre. The company now employs 24 people whose high-tech infrastructure includes a brand-new, state-of-the-art database which helps them identify customer needs in seconds, and a substantial presence on the World Wide Web. Adept recently opened its first overseas office in the USA.

With over 600,000 users around the world, Mathcad is the world's leading personal computer software package for scientists, engineers and other technical professionals. Designed to perform automatically all the mathematical calculations they need to do every day  Mathcad is currently available for PC and Macintosh, and in English, German, French, Spanish and Japanese versions. Axum allows scientists and engineers to transform large amounts of information into easy-to-understand graphical form at the touch of a button.
