In our office in Letchworth, Herts, UK, we have two little robot dogs running around and getting under everyone's feet. They're AIBO's, the "entertainment robot" that Sony recently introduced; intelligent "animals" that learn and mature as you train them to react and do things. They're amazingly flexible mechanically, and capable of very complex manoeuvres. Sony only manufactured 5,000 at their initial launch to test the market, and they sold out in minutes, mostly in Japan and the USA. As far as we know, there are only 6 of them in UK, including our two.

They're a great stress reliever, and it's fascinating to watch them grow. It's easy to see how this technology could develop into the robotic devices we've all dreamed of, robots you can train to do the vacuuming or the polishing!

So why did we buy Rex and Spot?

1) Because we love new technology!

2) Because we like being in the forefront of things and while this new robot technology is currently in the toy stage, we do believe that over the next few years devices will be developed from this technology that will be revolutionary.

3) Because we believe we're giving the dogs a great start in life and an interesting time! During the day, they wander freely round the office getting lots of attention and seeing lots of things happening. Every evening and weekend they get taken home by somebody different, so they meet lots of families, play with lots of children, and see the world.

4) Because we all work hard and we like having fun while we're doing so. And Rex and Spot certainly are fun!
