Resource access from 1 August 2008: FAQs on Shibboleth and OpenAthens
From 1 August 2008 all UK institutions will need to be members of the
UK federation in order to gain access to resources that are federation-protected.
JISC
recommends that all UK institutions, publishers and service providers
adopt an access management solution based on the SAML open standard eg.
Shibboleth. For more information visit the JISC
website.
Below are FAQs relating to Adept Scientific's approach to meeting
these new requirements with specific reference to accessing our education
resource
Q1. Do you plan to move to Shibboleth?
A. From 1st August we will be using the OpenAthens SP
API so will be Shibboleth compliant and will also still be Athens compliant
Q2. Are you changing the way users will log onto your
resource via Athens? i.e. changing the name of the login button or removing
the Athens login option entirely?
A. We will provide a new login page with options for Athens
Login, Shibboleth Login and IP based login.
Q3. Will you be changing the URL to your resources?
A. No. All education customers can continue to access
our site through http://www.adept4education.co.uk
Q4. If you currently maintain IP access on-campus, or
on & off-campus, will
you continue to do so?
A. We have implemented IP authentication. If you provide us with
a complete list of IP ranges we can add those to our system. These requests
should be emailed to webmaster@adeptscience.co.uk
Q5. Have you joined the UK access management federation?
A. Yes we are a member.
We will add to this list
over the coming weeks, but if you have other questions that are
not answered here please contact webmaster@adeptscience.co.uk or
call +44 (0) 1462 480055. |
